“BJ” Elizabeth Mathis is a native Georgian who has lived in Henry County for 24 years. She was elected to serve as the District Two Commissioner in 2005. As a “full time” Commissioner BJ takes a very hand’s on approach to government. During her first three years in office BJ has been intensely focused on planning for Henry County’s future.
Most of BJ’s energies as Commissioner have been directed toward the development and completion of a Comprehensive Transportation Plan and Comprehensive Land Use Plan. These plans are the blue prints for the County’s future and are critical to assuring a sustainable community for many years to come. Her newest initiative is a Comprehensive Economic Plan. This will not only attract jobs to Henry County but it will help create a solid tax base which in turn will relieve some of the tax burden shouldered by homeowners.
BJ and her husband John, a Police Lieutenant with the City of Atlanta, have been married 25 years. They are the proud parents of 3 children, and are blessed with 2 grandchildren. BJ and John are members of New Covenant Church of God in McDonough. Over the years BJ has held several ministry staff positions including Youth Minister and Church Administrator. She also worked for the Henry County Extension Service as the Agriculture and Natural Resource Program Assistant and has volunteered in numerous non-profit organizations. She is a member of the Republican Party and the Republican Women of Henry County. |
